When things are investigated, knowledge is extended. When knowledge is extended, the will becomes sincere. When the will is sincere, the mind is correct. When the mind is correct, the self is cultivated. -- Confucius
Politically correct ideals are garbage: true wisdom comes from decades of deep thought and neutral observation. Only a so-called sociopath could ascertain wisdom from this crazy world in a neutral way. Cool thoughts- uncorrupted by modern politics, social norms, or societal ideals- are required for wisdom. Questioning everything, and going against the grain on all universally accepted norms is the path to true intelligence. The Gods notice this.

Ron Paul – Menace to America

Just like right before 2004 and 2008, once again the Ron Paul supporters are making a lot of noise again. Like most, if not all, extremist movements- they are really just a few people making a lot of noise. The yard signs and bumper stickers you see make it appear that there are many more people supporting Paul than there really is. With the Democrats and Republicans, a small percentage of them choose to litter their yards and cars with signage declaring who they will vote for. With third party candidates, however, you can be sure that virtually all of their supporters are using the signage ploy to 'get the word out'. So if the ones advertising their affiliation are actually nearly 100% of the ones who intend to vote for him, then that is not really too many.

Some signs and stickers for Paul even have the word “revolution” with the -evol- part of the word highlighted and the O made into a heart shape. This implies love. Actually it is love backwards, so it is indeed accurate. What does Paul's platform have to do with love? Let's examine that, shall we?

Paul is an avowed Libertarian, and the Libertarian Party has their political platform laid out on their site. From it, we can gain many insights into their nefarious plans for America:

1.1: For starters, they support deregulation of the media. What will cable and internet cost once the reg.s are gone?

1.2: Next, they want to legalize all drugs of all kinds, and claim currently illegal drugs have no victims. Tell this to the millions of victims of drug related crimes. And consider how much easier it will be for kids to get ahold of drugs if they are legal. Portugal legalized drugs, and there was a 50% increase in use and a significant increase in drug-related deaths soon after. They now spend more on treatment than they used to on enforcement.

1.4: They also want to 'be kept out of the matter' of abortions. Such a major political party avoiding an issue is odd, isn't it? And does this mean they do not even care to chime in on late-term abortions?

1.5: They claim juries can and should re-interpret laws to their liking. This negates the need for judges and lawyers, and invites mob-rule and vigilante-minded emotion based decisions. Rules of evidence, preponderance of evidence, guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, innocent until proven guilty- all of these concepts would go out the window in nearly all cases if the juries were allowed to reinterpret laws at their whim.

1.6: They oppose all firearm regulations, period. Current laws prohibit convicted felons from owning firearms, as well as minors from buying them. The laws also prohibit owning military assault rifles and larger ordnance without a special permit. These and many other laws would be thrown out by their party.

2.0: They oppose fair trade, and support free trade. This means that there will be no tariffs so cheap labor nations can flood America with cheapy imports and ruin domestic manufacturers. Already in progress, their plan to open the floodgates on imports would be the death knell for American industry and cost millions of jobs.

2.1: They oppose minimum wage and interest rate controls. Minimum wage is already far below a livable wage, and it cannot be used to live on. This is a step away from indentured service, and the parties with big business friends want to lower it even more to save a few bucks. Also, deregulating interest rates will give the banks and Wall Street traders a heyday of gouging the public in numerous areas.

2.9: They wish to “restore and revive” the old health care system which they term 'free market'. They then imply that the republican lie-list about the new health care law is real, and that they want to stop it. They even have the gall to mention returning the right to choose end of life decisions. This alludes to the flagrant lie that Palin made about so-called “death panels”. All of this shows lack of knowledge about health care and/or a lockstep pandering to GOP lies.

2.10: They want to get rid of social security and welfare, claiming the poor are best helped by charities. Tell this to your grandmother. Their wording of this point barely conceals the acrimony towards the less fortunate and elderly.

3.4: Their stance on immigration is quite unclear, seeming to say two opposite things. Why not make it clear- are they afraid of angering certain voter blocks?

3.6: They oppose all regulation of campaign finance laws. This means they support PACs, lobbyists, and the like- which are nothing more than quasi-legal, barely concealed bribery of politicians. Of course they want the big corporations with all the money to continue to buy off congresspeople, more than ever before.

3.7: Their last edict-style statement seems to encourage insurrection by anyone who doesn't like the rules. This stance could easily incite melees and riots nationwide, while their party smiles in admiration of this 'liberty'.

See it for yourself here.

Do Ron Paul supporters actually know all of this stuff, and support it? Or are they mesmerized by his talking points? He does want to end the Fed and return to the gold standard, which understandably appeals to a lot of people. Many Americans are sick of private banks sapping this country dry. And he wants to end “foreign entanglements”, bringing all troops home and closing all foreign bases immediately. This also has broad appeal.

Many of his (former) supporters hoped he was so rebellious toward the entrenched establishment that he would have 9/11 investigated. He then made a public statement saying he would not. That is when his campaign withered. He also refused, and continues to refuse, to run as an independent or third party candidate. If he cannot run as a Republican, he will not go all the way. He knows that third parties have the odds against them in this system, but he should also know that Ross Perot and Ralph Nader nearly broke that rule of thumb before. It would seem he does not want to stray too far from his Republican roots. When he does vote for something, which is rare (hence his nickname of Dr. No), he usually votes with the Republicans. This includes his vote for impeachment of Pres. Clinton for having fun. Paul's claims of sticking to the Constitution seem questionable when you ponder how getting a blowjob in the oval office is a threat to the Founders' intentions. Paul voted for- never forget that. He sided with the witch hunt and the Starr Commission and the public airing of a president's personal sex life and the entire charade that stifled all official business and cost the taxpayers $85,000,000.- and the GOP horse and pony show that was the impeachment charade. And this was strictly constitutional, how exactly? Oh yes- because the GOP said so....so Paul voted yes.

Now he refuses to leave the party to gain the presidency. He refuses to investigate 9/11. But he is about love, his supporters say. I suspect love of money is more likely.

His persistent stance on the reversion to the gold standard sounds like a good idea, but sounds fishy to me when you consider his extensive personal investments in gold and silver mines. Smacks of bush and Carlyle; cheney and Halliburton. Now, Paul and gold & silver mines??? Below is a partial listing of his personal investments:
Agnico Eagle Mines
Allied Nevada Gold Corp.
Alumina Common
Anglo Gold Ashanti Ltd.
BrigusGold Corp. Com MPV
Barrick Gold Corp.
Claude Research Inc
Coeur D'Alene Mines Corp.
Gold Corp Inc
Hecla Mining Co.
El Dorado Gold Corp.

In conclusion, this blogger has doubts about Paul's true intentions and ambitions. If he cares about America, why does he promote libertarianism? And why do his supporters hate it so much when you bring up his investments?

One has to wonder if the entire subculture of dopers isn't supporting him since he wants to legalize all drugs, or what other groups also like him for apparent yet unspoken reasons. Such as the people who hate the poor- he wants to end welfare after all. (And if old ladies lose their social security in the process- oh well! ).

Now that there are demonstrations on Wall Street, some Paul supporters are trying to horn in and imply that Paul would fix this. While he is opposed to the Fed, he is also for deregulation and corporate empowerment. This would include big banking. Do not let them fool you into thinking he will somehow take care of the stranglehold billionaires have on this country. If anything, he would help them out through his avowed stripping of most laws. While this country needs an American Spring of sorts, it is not wise to replace one broken system with another. The party described above is not the way...

Libertarians: republicans unleashed? Or just rebels without a clue? Perhaps, a little of both...

How to Control Your Dreams

Lucid dreaming is not as hard as most people think.

It is a common fantasy in this culture to be able to control one's dreams. Many people envision being able to fly, and some even imagine they would be like Jim Carrey's character was in his movie "the Mask"--turning into a cartoonish character with superhuman abilities. What fun that would be!

Several novelty catalogs have sold gizmos to induce lucid dreaming. One, which sells for 249. dollars, consists of an eye mask with flashing red LED lights sewed into it. If you do not care to invest that much money into a flashing mask, not to worry; there is a better way! I do it all the time. How do I lucid dream?

It is a matter of psychology, not blinky gizmos. Here is a technique that is easy and really does work before long. Guaranteed...

1. First you must make a habit of something. Habits carry over into your actions when in a dream. So whenever you read something- anything- look away from it and then back to it. Re-read it. Do this many times a day until you are in the habit of it. See that pop bottle by you? Mountain Dew. Look away from it. Look back. What does it say now? Mountain Dew. Good. So simple. Just do that off and on all day, for like a week. Soon you will be at the next step.

2. Once this is a second-nature habit, you will begin to do it when dreaming as well. This is the neato part: for some psychological reason, when in a dream state, the words will never read the same twice. Absolutely never. Now the Mountain Dew bottle might say Made Doilie. Or Mshegf Dokjlll. Or anything but 'Mountain Dew'. You will go,"wait a minute- that ain't right...".

At this time, since you already know what you have just read here about this, you will realize you are in a dream! And once you realize you are dreaming, you have open license to do whatever you want!!! It really is that easy.

The only drawback is that sometimes, when having a really good dream (like finally hooking up with your hot coworker, for example), then you will realize it is just a dream, and that kind of throws water on the fun you were already enjoying. As a matter of fact, I have had so many dreams ruined by this ability that I try not read things and not become aware. But it usually creeps in anyway, and a feeling of exasperation- or sometimes relief sets in. Generally though, it is good to do some aware-exploring on the other side of consciousness.

This ability is also useful for quashing bad dreams. Nightmares are not so scary once you realize they are not real.

If you take melatonin, it does not help induce lucid dreaming, but it does make your dreams more vivid and easy to remember. Keep in mind that everyone has their own limits, and if you take too much it will induce nightmares. Just find the right amount for you, and in combination with the above techniques makes it all more intense.

Try this. Be persistent with your self-training and it will work. Don't just read pop bottles either- utilize books, signs, box labels- anything written.

Sweet dreams!

This is a good place to mention one of my pet peeves- cultural myths. One is that if you die in your dream, you die for real in your sleep. Nonsense. I have, including when little way before I knew how to dream lucidly, died in my dreams several times. Falling off skyscrapers a couple times, and more recently getting crushed by a pile of rebar (mighty scary), I obviously woke up- alive. The movie Dreamscape may have either played upon this myth or started it, but it is not how it really works.
How does anyone think they know what someone was dreaming when they died, if they died in their sleep? Give me a break.

P.S. : this is a repost from a site I used to write on. Below are the comments it received there:

"Pedro Diaz":
I can very easily go back to any point in a dream I just woke up from at any time of the day. If I didn't like the last part I remember, I just go back to an earlier part to change the end result. When single, I use to tell my girlfriends to meet somewhere in our dreams. They always had a different dream or did not remember what they dreamed. In the other hand, I had a good time with them. The last girl I tried it with in my home town, dream with me but was not sure of the whole dream. I dream I got to 3rd base with her in a place near by my own. The next night I had a Daja Vu of the dream with her - or was I dreaming of the future.

"magic in my head":
i kinda get what u are sayin, can you help me control my dreams, ive wanted to know how lyk forever, can u help me pls, ive always had a feeling that my dreams were going to help me make a discovery in myself, and i think you are the anwser to dis, my dreams have always told me somethin but i cud never tell what it ment , and if i new wat i was dreaming i could reach new heights and change the world, ive always been different, like a lot of the times im daydreamin and wat i dream hapens,or wen i am barely thinkinand am listenin to the radio and i just barely think of a song i wanna listen to the song i thought of comes on help me. if any1 here can help me with what i am lookin for contact me at sjordan101@aim.com

Very interesting that this technique can help eliminate nightmares.

Beware Woodlands / Regency Rehab Center

Earlier this year, my mom suddenly fell ill and had to be hospitalized. She ended up being diagnosed with blood clots in legs, 2 slipped discs, acute renal failure, a broken tailbone, and meningitis. She also might or not have had broken ribs- they never decided on that. After being placed in the hospital, she got a staph infection, cellulosis, internal bleeding due to them overdosing her on blood thinners, and aspirant pneumonia. This is not about any hospital though.

Eventually she was moved to a rehab center. Rehab centers are like nursing homes but are supposed to be short term and focus on rehabilitation. This is where it gets interesting.

The place she was sent to is called Regency Rehab of Council Bluffs, Iowa, formerly and commonly known as Woodlands. We found out very quickly that this was a facility with substandard care.

First, the staff there treated my mom like a retard or imbecile. They talked to her like a little kid and refused to tell her anything or explain anything to her. This was despite the fact that she is not and never was the least bit senile. We told the staff that several times, but they continued to treat her like a child the whole time she was there. I had to complain to the office in order to find out for her what the medicines were they were giving her. She did not know and they wouldn't tell her. One turned out to be Cipro- a powerful antibiotic. What was infected? No one knew. They also informed her sister one day that there had been a “medical error”: they forgot to give her any of her medicines one day.

My sister was called repeatedly about what they were doing to her, but they refused to tell my mom. One day, for example, they came in and gave her a shot. When she asked what it was for, they refused to say. They had already called my sister and told her though. Numerous complaints about this procedure both by my sister and my mom were fruitless. They just did not want her to know anything. Meanwhile, neither my sister nor anyone else had medical or any other type of power of attorney over my mom. This is because it was not needed. My mom was sane and lucid the whole time. They couldn't comprehend this though- after all, my mom was 66 years old!

My mom complained one day to her sister that she was afraid of smelling like an incontinent person, since the nurse aides never wiped her. It turned out that none of the aides ever wiped her dry after urinating. When my aunt asked an aide about it, she acted genuinely shocked, and had no idea they were supposed to do that. So we had to complain a few more times to get this rectified.

Meanwhile, the aides almost always took 30 to 40 minutes to answer a call. Since my mom was unable to walk on her own, she needed help getting to the bathroom. By the time they arrived at her room 40 minutes later, she had sometimes lost it. The constant holding of it for long periods surely contributed- along with the unsanitary procedures- to her getting a bladder infection later. At first a nurse told us she did not have an infection- it was 'bladder spasms'. My mom wanted it checked by a doctor, as she had to go more and more frequently because of it. This is a normal effect of a bladder infection- frequent urination. But a night nurse took a sample and said it was an infection. The day nurse said the sample indicated no infection. No doctor was consulted by either, as far as we knew. After a week of complaining, and suffering from this, she finally got a pill for the infection. Is this what the Cipro was for? They were not sure. Even after all this, she still had to wait a half an hour or more to get help going to the bathroom nearly every time.

Another problem was the food and its service. They woke her up every morning at 6:30AM so she would be ready to go at 7:00. Then they wheeled her to the cafeteria, where she had to wait for an hour to an hour and a half for food to be served. The same was done for dinner and supper. We asked why the food could not be prepared first, then people could be taken to the cafeteria and served immediately. They blamed the cook, saying he was slow. Our question was not answered. One day they gave her cream of wheat for breakfast. She said she wanted milk to go on it. It took them a half an hour to bring out a little milk. Another day they never gave her any breakfast at all. She complained and was ignored. My aunt complained as well, and a nurse aide told her two different stories. She was lying. The next day, this same aide brought her two bowls of cereal for breakfast, obviously just to be spiteful.

It was like another time when my aunt complained that when they put her on a commode, the aides never shut the door so anyone going down the hall could see her. An aide lied to my aunt about that too, telling her different excuses.

One aide pulled her up with an assist strap by yanking her sharply. It caused her extreme pain (2 slipped discs remember). My mom complained about that aide being too rough. This was the same one that later lied about her not getting any breakfast. As far as we know, that aide was not fired or even disciplined. If she was, we were not informed.

The rehab was non-existant for a couple weeks, then finally began. It consisted of them wheeling her to a rehab room. Then the male and female nurses talked, played with hot wheels cars, played with a balloon, joked around, and then wheeled my mom back to her room. I guess they thought it was training her to walk again by making her watch them flirt with each other. Again, we had to complain. They gave her a new rehab nurse, who did do some work helping her to walk.

Unfortunately, even after this the old problems continued with her meals, medicines, and wait time to get help with anything. The office gave us excuses, but nothing improved.

We finally moved her to a different facility after an incident that nearly killed her. Her blood sugar level was high, so someone gave her an insulin shot. It was too much, and her glucose level went down to 30. 90-100 is normal, and 20 will send you into a coma (maybe the facility's doctor can be blamed here- her current doctor says she never needed insulin at all, and any insulin lowers her glucose too much; the staff's actions afterward are my main complaint). This caused extreme malaise and sweating. The aide on duty noticed she was sweating. Why was she sweating on a cold night? Was it a medicinal reaction? Should the charge-nurse be called? This aide, the breakfast one mentioned earlier, who claims 12 years experience in nursing, did not realize this was a diabetic coma coming on. She decided to open the window to fix this, telling no one, and shutting the door behind her...This window is a horizontally sliding one, the openable half of which is about 4X4 feet. It was opened all the way in the middle of the night, when it was 30 degrees out and very windy. My mom's temperature went down to 90 degrees- hypothermic. Luckily, someone else there found her hours later. They put her into a wheelchair, rolled her to the nurse's station in the hall, and the group of them then decided it must have something to do with diabetes. So, despite her barely conscious state, they tried for some time to force her to eat crackers. The allegedly professional nurses never thought of orange juice, glucose tablets, or even of calling the facility doctor. Finally, someone for some reason took her temperature. Then finally someone called an ambulance due to that. From that hospital she went to, we immediately made arrangements to have her sent elsewhere....The facility lied to get out of this, saying my mom 'asked' for the window to be opened and then 'did not ask' for it to be closed again. Poppycock- but it was enough for the state to dismiss this near-killing of a patient. Another shocking thing is that on the state's investigation report, it says that if the staff would have realized the window was open, they would not have sent her to the hospital at all. (If they have so much trouble ascertaining diabetic reactions to too much insulin, then how did they think they would fix this problem plus the hypothermia by themselves????scary!!!!)...

I later filed a complaint with the state of Iowa about all of this, and received responses via email, phone, and letter. My mom was eventually questioned and has heard nothing since. They sent me a letter two months later declaring that our complaints were unfounded. The basic reasons for this, with each one of the four they picked out to 'investigate', was that the staff at this place told them otherwise. What a fucking joke.

The IA Dept.of Inspections and Appeals is a joke. The whole concept of laws protecting the elderly is a joke. The so-called healthcare of nursing homes is a joke. And I let them know that in a venomous letter, which they as yet have not responded to.

Please check this link (link now invalid since facility has closed) about Regency Rehab. Note how many times they have been in trouble with the state, especially the section near the bottom of the page about Repeating Problems. As the site says,
Proceed with caution when a nursing home on average repeats deficiencies 3 or more times.”. Of the 30 problems listed as repeat issues, 20 occurred 3 times or more. Two recurred 12 times.
They also state:
What is the ability of this nursing home to correct problems?Highly unlikely to correct problem.”
If you found that interesting/disturbing, then please do read the rest of the report and other links below. I can tell you from personal experience that this place has substandard care. They have uncaring and poorly trained aides, incompetent nurses, and lackadaisical management. You have to wonder about a place with 47% occupancy, when most care facilities have 80+%. If you are looking for a quality care facility to place a loved one in, I encourage you not to choose this place. Go by the reports I linked to, or my experiences. These are my observations and opinions- do your own research as well!

Regency Rehab and Skilled Nursing Center
(dead link above due to closing of facility)
fka/aka Woodlands Care Center (same place)
1600 McPherson Avenue
Council Bluffs, IA 51503

(link above works but this facility is off the list now- good source for other facilities though)

And this site- note ratings
(this link still works and has this place listed for now! please read; if it is taken down later email me if interested- i took screenshots of it)

ALSO, consider this: as much as they got away with that I have just entailed, you have to wonder what it takes to get 'founded' complaints logged against a facility in this state. Then consider the number of them already on record for this place. What else happened/s, and is not 'founded'? Disturbing thought...

There are numerous resources on the net for looking up info such as this, so please do investigate any facility before placing someone you know into it.

Final note: this article describes observations of myself and my family members, some of which could be considered 'opinions'. Since the state decided the liars that work there are more believable than my mom or numerous others, then the only proof I have is our testimonies. Consider it opinion and do your own research.
